WEEK 6 : ROLES OF UNIVERSITIES AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Assalamualaikum wbt everyone and welcome back to my blog, I hope you all are in the best state of health! 😝

Today, our lecture is about roles of universities and sustainable development. I'm delighted to share a handful of the novel stuff that I discovered today. After the doa recitations, Dr Suhaimi started of the lecture exposing to us about the significant of universities to play its role as a big part in pushing for sustainable development. Let's dig into how COVID-19 shook things up for universities and their sustainable goals. We're also questioning if the education system really lines up with what society and industries need. And yes, we're discussing about how Islam fits into universities and what Malaysia's education philosophy is all about. Also, factory-style teaching doesn't cut it for dealing with unfairness. Learning for sustainability? Yeah, that's a mix of know-how, practical skills, tolerance, and doing your own thing. We're all about switching from the old-school way of just dumping info on students to a more student-focused, teamwork-heavy, and practical way of learning. Oh, and don't forget about sticking sustainability into university education. Well, it's a big deal. Besides, we're to study about different ways people learn, comparing academic and social learning modes, and breaking down the differences between transformational and regular learning. Cool stuff, right?

Thus, learning is about knowledge, developing skills, adopting a positive mindset, stepping outside of your comfort zone, experimenting, applying critical thinking, and doing things. Not only that, instead of producing highly specialized brainiacs, universities ought to be producing graduates with broad knowledge bases who are prepared to take on policy-making roles. Nobel laureate Ahmad Zewail advises us to stay ahead of the curve, pursue studies that the West isn't as interested in, and use local intelligence to tackle global problems. Well, research, too? It must address the concerns of the underprivileged and focus only on maintaining affordability and environmental sustainability as Islam also approaches environment from a stewardship perspective. The earth is God's creation, and as humans, we have been entrusted to preserve it as we found. Today's universities must be Master of Technology sharing while avoiding environmental catastrophe. Higher education should adhere to the environmental agenda following the COVID crisis.😖

Okay, it's a wrap for today. See you next week!  💘
