WEEK 8 : Role Of Institutions for Sustainable Development

Image
Assalamualaikum and hi everyone,  I am so excited to share about today's lesson.. here is a summary it,enjoy!😊 Institutions play critical roles in promoting and fulfilling the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As we all know, sustainable development attempts to meet the needs of the present without jeopardising future generations' ability to meet their own. Institutions, whether governmental, non-governmental, or private, each have their unique tasks and functions in contributing to sustainable development. National and municipal governments, for example, should implement and carry out policies that encourage sustainable development. Environmental protection, economic development, and social equality should all be addressed by these measures. These three sectors are interconnected and universal challenges that necessitate integrated and inventive solutions. Furthermore, strong collaboration and coordination across institutions and sectors are required ...

WEEK 9 : Field Works-On Campus Observation

Image
Assalamualaikum, everyone! In this week's blog, I'll discuss sustainable campus design. First and foremost, what precisely is a sustainable campus? What sets it apart from a green campus? As we discussed, Dr. Suhaimi shared that IUM has not yet achieved the title of green campus because not all communities in IIUM implement the SDGs, such as there are still many vehicles used on campus when we can walk on the pedestrian road, people throw litter everywhere and do not practise the 3R, and so on. Even if it is only a modest activity, I believe it is critical for us to have everyday sustainability practices in order to reach a green or sustainable campus. For example, as students, we can bring our own food containers whenever we wish to buy things at the café. Small efforts may appear insignificant, but they can save our environment by reducing the use of polystyrene or plastic containers. A sustainable campus typically has a larger focus, highlighting not just the environmental,...

WEEK 5 : SEJAHTERA AS LOCAL CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Image
Assalamulaikum wbt everyone, If you still remember, last week we had two sessions which consisted of a recorded lecture and a sharing session with the RCE exhibition at ICC, well similarly for today's class, we are going to watch a prerecorded video and join the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED) to visit every booth, search for books on Sustainable Development skim read them. Here I will share a summary from the video shared by Dr Suhaimi. Well, Dr first let us explore the notion of Sustainable and Responsible Agency (SRA) as a local approach to sustainable development. Actually, SRA is consistent with the Madani development framework, which prioritizes sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, trust, care, and compassion. Localizing sustainable development means modifying the ideas and agenda of sustainable development to match the requirements and expectations of individual regions, countries, languages, or cultures. Dr also utilizes the example o...

WEEK 4 : INTERNATIONAL SUSSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Image
Assalamualaikum wbt everyone,  As of today's class, it is kind of interesting because Dr Suhaimi divided the session into two. Let me tell you about the recorded lecture that our lecturer shared first. Dr. Suhaimi addresses the worldwide framework of sustainable development, tracing its origins to 1972 when the United Nations held a human development conference in Stockholm. The 1992 UNCED, Agenda 21, the Climate Change Convention, the 1982 UN Convention on Biological Diversity, the 1985 UN Convention to Combat Desertification, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and the revised Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are all important agreements. The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) was founded in 1982 to address environmental challenges, which led to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Kyoto Protocol, Bali Action Plan, and SDGs. Sustainable development concepts include lowering ozone depletion, addressing climate change, maintaining biodiversity...

WEEK 3 : MAQASID SHARIAH AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Image
As for today, we begin  our class by reciting a prayer for Allah's mercy and forgiveness. Right after,Dr Suhaimi proceeds with the topic at hand, which is the Islamic perspective of sustainable development and the concept of Maqasid, which can be defined as the objective or foundation of Islamic law. Maqasid is based on the Quran and Sunnah and refers to the purpose or objective of Islamic law. Dr also explains that sustainable development, which involves balancing environmental, social, and economic dimensions, can be traced back to the historical development of Islamic jurisprudence. The Maqasid concept serves as the foundation for the Islamic rulings towards achieving sustainable development as part of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Maqasid Shariah  principles include the preservation of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property which will lead to chaos and injustice for society if it's not protected. It's today's date when I learned about the  ...

WEEK 2 : ISLAM AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Image
As usual, we start our class by reciting ummul kitab al-fatihah.  Today was not the best day as almost half of the class was absent which upsets our lecturer, Dr Suhaimi which led us to next discuss about whether the students in the class prefer online or physical classes to be held from next we onwards.😔 As my classmates voiced their opinions, the majority voted for online classes so that will be it, said Dr Suhaimi plus the students don't have to rush to the venue ,we just need to click on the link and get access to the class anywhere.  Furthermore, Dr gave some suggestions and ideas for our group project such as picking up rubbish as a potential project to benefit the environment which was absolutely amusing because the simplest thing you could do would leave a huge impact on the environment. 💚 On top of that, Dr added that the topic of sustainable development includes three elements: economy, environment, and society, and gave each group some time to apply the ele...

WEEK 10 : QUIZ

Image
Assalamualaikum and hi everyone! I hope you are all in the best state of health. Well for today's class, guess what we did? Yep, it was quiz time!🙈🙊🙉 I cannot tell you how nervous I was,you know the feeling when you have studied real hard but are still as nervous as ever..that's me every time 😓 The quiz will last two hours, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (during class time), and comprises 50 multiple-choice questions covering the topics we learned from week one to week nine via Microsoft form. Not going to lie, I was actually scared by the number of questions but yes I managed. Were the questions hard? As for me, I think that there are questions that are easy and some are hard as well. I did finish answering all the questions 10 minutes before it ended because I was coming back to some questions that I was not sure about the answer and it consumed some time. To my surprise, after submitting the form, the result was released immediately and I scored 12% of my grade out of the 15% w...
